About
Soulborn is an Open World RPG by PixelMad Studios
I joined the development team in 2018 and this was honestly one of the best experiences in my career. Not only could I learn many new tricks from experienced developers, it took away my fear from using GitHub and collaborating with other developers.
Sadly I had to quit. It was a hard decision but I choose safety in my current job in exchange for the adventure. Sometimes I still regret not sticking with the team.
Description
I created many core systems for the game or helped developing or debugging others.
Pickup System, Settings System, Dynamic Weather System, Time System, Platform System
Input System, Gamepad UI Integration, Quest System, Some UI Design, Interaction
As well as some other technical features like special spline-effects
New things learned
Using GitHub
An interface approach to generate a more modular codebase
Working in a team of devs and artists is fun
A animation driven pickup-system to interact with other Actors in an open world game can fail in so many ways @_@
I cannot work on multiple big projects simultaniously and get enough sleep.
marketing a game to publishers at GamesCom is very stressful
Problems Solved
Teamwork, Source Control (GitHub), modular BP design
Personal Goal
Working together to archive a great ideal, none individual can reach.
Getting myself a taste of large projects and management.
